Hey dudes,

Im a recent convert to a T5. It came out've a ED XR6.
Its now in my EB Fairmont 4.0 now making about 180rwkw. Its got an Extreme 1200kg plate & organic clutch.

Going to the drags this weekend, so im wondering if I'll need a tow home?

i think it will be ok, but at the end of the day it comes down to how you launch, how you change gear and the overall condition of the box..

i myself had been running an ea t5 with 400'000+km on the box with 200rwkw for around 18 months and the box was still ok when it was removed..
again im now running a ef t5 behind a turbo set up with 265rwkw it been down the 1/4 a few times and is still holding up fine,,,
some will say otherwise, but i think 180rwkw is still fine for a t5..

Thats put my mind at ease abit, Cheers.
Only prob with the box is the input shaft bearing is abit noisey. Think it had about 200k on the clock.
Cheers for the post!!

Whats a good RPM to launch at you think??

probably around 2500 to 3000rpm with a touch of slip on the clutch/slowish release of the clutch...
you dont want to rev its nuts off and dump the clutch, that will either just smoke the tyres or break the box lol...

try a few different methods of rpm and you will find a sweet spot eventually..

As troyman stated, how you treat the box will determine how long it will last. Smashing 2nd to 3rd is usually a deal-breaker on these things. My box did heaps of runs with 205+rwkw and launching from around 4500 - 5000rpm, slipping the clutch a lot. It even went a couple of meets on the bottle where it would've had over 300rwkw going through it.

Shift gently and, with your power, you should be fine.

Didn't make it to the track. Believe the imput shaft bearing gave way during a miss shift. My co driver was at the wheel at the time. Long tow home.
