I want/ need to upgrade my EL manual single spinner to an LSD.

So far my options are:

1) Get hemisphere and/or crownwheel from wrecker and fit that myself.
-Pro - only about $300
-Con - Cant shim properly Diff will be noisy/wear out fast, unknown condition of diff and take up my time.

2) Get entire rear axle and fit that.
- Pro - Avoids issues with shiming of diff, possabily easier to do
-Con - Paying for parts that might not be as good as my current axle, Cant bloody find one at a wrecker!, Unknown condition. $500

3) Take to diff place, drive in/drive out with reconditioned LSD (genuine Ford parts) inserted into my axle, propper shims, 1 year warranty.
-Pro - easy, fast
-Con - $850!

Anyone else got any ideas/ comments.
Anyone know of any cheaper places to get a diff done.
Thinking of 3 but want it cheaper!

Yeah, you have a sedan... so just keep an ear out for someone selling a diff on here (whole diff), normally cheap (as opposed to recon), and they can tell you what condition its in. Ofcourse the mystery fact is still there, but you get the fun of changing a diff (aint that bad). Hopefully the seller is honest, and if not and its bad, its not THAT bad to recon an already there LSD... ie the cones.

I would suggest that as the bext option.
Currently doing the same.. but leaf sprung LSDs are hard to find.

Cheers

I will ask my mate if I can post his details. I think he would prefer his number quietly shared via PM.

I can definately vouch for his work. Does some wonders with LSD's.

Like the top work he did on mine... :D

Replacing the diff centre isn't that hard, and if u use the correct shims that come with your housing, you shouldn't have a problem with whinning.

I've done this twice in two cars fitted with BW diffs, and I've never had to re shim them. Just used the same shims from my housing, in the same sides as they came out.

So are you supposed to use the shims from the original diff or from the new diff centre?

Anyway if the friend of arm79 can do it for $500-550 with a warranty and reco LSD then I will be happy.

Hey mate, would you be able to PM me too, if your mate could change a 3:45 LSD, to 3.7's or 3.9's?

Cheers Dave

Ha ha great minds think alike... If your mate isn't against a bit of work I'm fairly interested too... I've got a tax return cheque burning a hole in my pocket...

Wow... That was a bit of a change from this afternoon.

Yes I'm sure he'd be very interested in the other work.

I do know someone with a 3.7 rear end that he wants to change to a 3.45. Maybe a swap is in order or something...

Let me speak to him, and I'll try and wiggle out of being the middle man here, so I can get some definate answers for you all.
