Hey guys, im sick of my s**t LSD and need a locker....
How many spline would my 3.27:1 4 pinion LSD be? 28?
I'll need a new open wheeler carrier of any ratio correct? (crown wheel un-bolts?)

Cheers

no probs.

Lockers and spools are different. Spools physically join the axels, lockers put a 'locking' mechanism in between so it acts like an open wheeler under light throttle and a spool when you hammer it.

Ok, like a detroit locker.

we've always called a welded diff a locker.

Spools are cheap, lockers of which you speak off are dear correct?

no one cares if they are illegal, they're not really enforced... you might get 1 or 2 defected in a blue moon.. like it's easy to put in and take out a spool, so i've heard... i've got one sitting next to me ready to put in.... then one day i will get billet axels (awaits a job :P)

on the forums, it's pretty much easy to say... 'ohh but it's goin in my track car.. which won't be registered... so how can it be illegal.' ;)

-mhgill, keep us posted how you progessing with the spool, if you don't mind :)

not only are they illegal, but even in experienced hands spools are a danger

atm theres a 9 page thread about a member on here who was killed after a 4wd driver who ran a red light and smashed into the members car

whats to say it couldnt have been some young buck in his hotted up falcon or commodore, went to turn the corner, spool causes the back end to lose traction, and the car slams sideways into some innocents car, killing someones mother/father/brother/sister/son/daughter, etc?

are you sure you want to put your life as well as EVERY other road users life in danger just so you can be a hero on the burnout pad? (i'm giving you credit that you're not a big enough idiot that you'd go ripping burnouts in public, but considering you're looking at ILLEGAL modifications to disable your vehicles braking system, i guess maybe i'm being too nice)

and as a final thought...... spools, line lockers, oil, etc are just a substitute for horsepower, if you cant smoke'em unaided, maybe consider upping your power first.....

GO HARD OR GO HOME

I'd say most of the members would, Fordmods does not encourage illegal mods. Especially if they might contribute to you loosing control of your car!

Fair enough, and i agree with what everyone's saying... but since it's what you asked, yes 28 spline, i spooled my LSD as well but i had to get parts from a single spinner diff for the spool to fit correctly...

yah, but it's not illegal to have it on a track car... the OP could have mean't, or in his defense; said it's for his track car. ;)

yeah, it's illegal on public roads; but private property it isn't illegal of course :P

... if you want to drive hard, expect to lose traction... but you just always gotta know that you have a spool and to take everything really careful

- mhgill, the one you would be after is the '28 spline spool to suit lsd or ss, 4 pinion, suitable for borgwarner.' they will understand, also you can get them from ebay is like $99, retail shops are asking around the $140 +

enjoy it on your 'track car' ;) :P

I didn't ask your opinion on the morals of Spools did I? If you can't help keep your opinions to yourself in the future.

Spools are not a subsitute for power. Line Lockers just avoid excess wear on the brakes.

you don't own this thread just cause you started it, he can put his opinion in whether he feels like it or not, and its up to your discretion if you wan't to listen or not.
