about 30mins ago i had to go and pick up my mum after her car stopped in the middle of her work carpark. the car is an auto, but it seems that when the car is in D, 3, 2, 1 it is fine, however when it is put into reverse the car just stops where it is?? then it must be restarted. does anyone know of this problem or what it might be cause im clueless? maybe the gearbox?

when you say the car stops, the motor just shuts down?
What happens if you slowly go from park to neutral - ie past reverse, does it do anything weird? |

the whole thing just stops and thats it.. its dead?? going past reverse is fine, only when you stop there and it clicks into it, then its got a problem. it just stops and there is nothing.
any ideas cause im lost lol |

does the car jolt / move when it stop, ie is it actually going into reverse?
otherwise it may be a short with the reverse lights, or a bad earth somewhere |

no it does make a bit of a clunk as it goes into gear, then just stops. starts fine when back into park, but once its back in reverse and you feel it go into gear it just shuts off again
|
