Hi Lads i know this aint a ford muscle car but its still a ford right?
Ok i have a 97 hc 2.0ltr auto mondeo and the gear box has just
started to pack up, i had it into the trans shop and they said that a
band had bust estimating $750.00 to replace it with a new band or
they gave the option of having a $3000 trans rebuild done. Dont really
wanna spend that kind of coin so i thought id give it a go myself i went to
my local do it your self wreckers today and pulled out the internals of another trans, from what i can see there is only one band is this
correct ? also is there any other parts needed to be replaced if i do the band at the same time?
Big Thanks.

Didnt really have time to pull out the whole box mate to get it out is a lot
of work in one of these, you can access the internals with the box still in there is like a round hatch near the left strut.

Be careful because if you dont take care when you pull the end cover off other parts move and let bearings and thrust washers drop down further in the transmission and you will have to pull it virtually right apart to get them back in place. One easy way would be take the sensor of the end cover and put maybe a screw driver in the hole when you pull the cover off. The band is the first thing you will come across when you take the cover off.

Hi mate thanks for your reply but i think that it is a little too late as i attempted this over the weekend and have only just jumped on to my computer again. I removed the sensor and the cover and as i removed the cover the rest of the internals came with it so i changed the band and re inserted the cylindrical internals put the cover back on filled har with trans oil and started her up let her run for two minutes and then tried to select some gears. It would not engauge into any gear and now seems like it is locked in park cant even push it just locked up ????
It sounds like ive done what you said i should be careful of not doing! and
ive just made it worse,What now how can i fix this mr Trans Man?
HELP.
And also are these thrust bearings your talking about located deep in the box close to where the oil pump drive finishes?
Cheers.
