My BA just lost all gears it sits and revs wont move back or forwards, what is wrong with it?
If I rev it hard it creeps but then it goes again, any advise would be great.

dead BTR, time for an exchange box. I can only assume its an auto and a 4 speed as you have not given much info.

But yep, dead box. Time to let the moths out of the wallet unfortunately.

sounds to me like planetry gear set has broken if you get no drive in either direction... Is it possible to drop the pan off the gearbox to see for metal debris in it?

Thanks for your help,
yes it is 4 speed and it has been making a clunking then a quick grinding noise changing from 1st to 2nd for a while now but been going well, the last week it has been making a squealing or whizzing noise when accellerating, yesterday it just started sitting and no going any where for about 3 mins in reverse then today it has nothing at all.

oh it has also had vibration just before they went. I did have a wheel aligment done on rear end and ever since it feels like the back end is swinging out on its own or like the wheels are going one then then other kinda thing hard to explain.

your gonna have to find it now, and if someone else is doing it, the coin for the towtruck to get it there. If its a 6, then be a bit thankful as the boxes are cheaper than V8 boxes. If your doing it yourself, call up and find out what the price is for a reco box on exchange and the price to reco your existing box.

Grabbing a reco box is gonna be your most cost effective option, unless you want to get a second hand box from a wrecker. I'd avoid this one unless its an absolute matter of money, cause you could be doing the same job sooner than you plan again.

I have a few friends that can tow it for me I guess I was hoping it was nothing to major.
It is an ex police car and just gone 500,000 so it has done a good job. I paid $2,000 for it 3 years and have spend $3,000 on it.
This is the first real expensive thing to go on it it has been a very reliable car.

How is your coolant? Is it green it or turned into a milky colour? Your transcooler inside the radiator could have s**t itself which has mixed the coolant of the radiator and the oil from the tranny together and caused the issues you described, it could have been a slow leak which is why it has progressivly gotten worst.

nearly every DIY wreckers now have BA's, trans could cost you as little as $200 but you have to fetch it yourself.

add a few hundred for fluids and random parts.

but at the end of the day, you still dont know how it went in the 'wreck car'

The coolant looks good I think it has an external trans cooler, a friend checked that today as he thought the same as you.

Yeah there is a few backyard wreckers will check with them tomorrow your right you have no idea what they were like in the wrecked car, I was amazed the last time I went to see the backyard wrecker he had a really nice typhoon falcon that had been smashed in the side and he was sell bits off what a shame.
