My guess is that like most brake upgrades for E series the uprights/spindles have been replaced/ modified as unless you get EL GT ones you cant fit bigger rotors and calipers, so in order to fit them they stick out more increasing the width across the front from wheel to wheel, so you use AU / or later rims which have a different offset to compensate.
