Okay, Im quite sure that on most EA-ED's that the pressure line from the power steering pump is a rubber type hose.

My pressure line is a steel braided line, it has a kink in it and is now pissing out fluid every time I turn the wheel.

Q. What is involved to change the line myself, where can I get one, how much should it cost and is there any special tools I will need???? Has anyone on here had to do the same thing???

Thanks guys! ;)

u should be able to buy the line from any auto store
no speacial toosl should be needed and any1 with basic knowlage should be able to do this
you may have to watch out for the o ring at the end of each line and make sure u get the o ring out of the pump and rack b4 u install teh new 1

In the mean time, might wanna pull the belt off. You can drive around with no p/s pump... but you cant run the pump if there's no fluid left.

you can chang eit yourself, its just a bit of time..

get someone to make another one up for you like yours, or buy a orig ford one.. only way as second hand tends to leak always

Okay, thanks guys...

I was reading the gregories manual and it said I need to get the hose out with a 'Pipe wrench'??? I have no idea what that is???

The end connected to the rack has a 90° bend and Im not too sure how to get it off...

At the moment I've just wrapped the hose in some electrical tape to stop it squirting all over my extractors and smokin up...

Pipe wrench = stilsons, frightening.

I believe they mean a ring spanner that has a small cut out in it so you can slip it around the small part of the pipe.

well it also has more points of contact so it does not slip and or break the pipe :)

like a brake line tool!

Okay, I did some ringing around....

Metro Ford = $93.95
Repco = $78.00
Autobarn = $91.00

I did ask Ford about my steel braided pressure line which is in there at the moment, and they said it was probably made by PirTek. I gave them a call and they quoted me $75.00 to make a new one up out of my old line.

So, I think I might go the steel line again, as the line sits very close to my extractors and I wouldn't want the rubber type to melt.

What do ya'll think?????

The other 3 prices were for rubber type hoses?
Got the braided hose, better price, stronger, and should be more heat resistant.

To wrap it up...

Once I figured out which hex nut I had to undo (I was trying to loosen the wrong bit of the hose and going nowhere), I got the whole line off within a couple of minutes. I took it down to PIRTEK at Hendra, they made me up another one, but it was a rubber type hose, still... $75 for a new line and I can't complain.

Whacked it in, everything fits nicely, and I have power steering again! YAY!

"... with the pressure line now fixed and some cash in the bank, will Lukieman find a replacement powersteering pump, or will Jack Beedham have his way with a 2.5" exhaust system??? Stay tuned next week for more EA Fairmont adventures with Lukieman!!!"
