How much do I have to change to put a T5 and LSD out of an EB into my EL fairy? I know the boxes arent going to be as good as the later model ones but Im just after a quick answer of how much more work it will be to put the EB gear in rather then EL stuff.

its pretty easy mooseman.. the diff is a 2 to 3 hour job depending on your skills but it really str8 foreward remone and refit.

As for the gear box this is a little trickyer, alought very much remove and refit a fair amount of mechanical knowledge will help with this. you may also need a EF loom for the box not 100% sure as they may be the same.

Also i think the EB 2 onwards the boxes are the same....? some one correct me if im wrong

not sure if it helps much but an EA gearbox has a taller 1st gear and no syncro mesh reverse gear compared to en EF T5.. as i had an EA T5 installed into my EF fairmont..i6...

The EB diff won't fit into the EL, different mounts for the upper trailing arms, the EL was the first to be different from previous. The EL upper arms are also different.
The T5 will fit. The EA box has a 3.50:1 first.
The later boxes had 3.25:1 first gear.
There were no synchro reverse boxes at all.

EBII-EL gearboxes are the same. No extra work required to fit this.

EBII diff centre will fit your EL Fairmont as it is most probably a 3.23 ratio, but not the entire diff assembly (disc to disc).

EB pedal box will fit, but is a lot of stuffing around, easier to just get a Mal Wood clutch pedal pin in this case.

But its an EBI not a series II, its also a 3.45 diff so I dont think its stock.

Different brake/handbrake setup, won't have ABS rings on the axles, different trailing arm mounting points for EBI as cjh mentioned, different watts link position on diff.

What tags are on the EBI diff?
If it's 3.45 it's either had the gears fitted, or it's out of an ED XR.
If it IS, the centre can be swapped into your EL diff.
If it's EBI centre it could be 25spline.

I just spoke to mal wood and they said $85 for the clutch pin assembly so thats ok is that all I will need to buy apart from a new clutch kit?

Actually EB1 might have had the 28 spline axles, I'm not too sure.

As long as your diff isn't a 3.08, and as long as the EB diff is for 28 spline axles you'll be alright to swap the centres.

Ok guys sorry but the car is ACTUALLY a series 2 EB with a 3.45 LSD. Its not the stock diff apparently but I dunno what it came out of. This means I will most likely be getting the car and putting a 5 speed and LSD in mine. W00T!
