Gearbox just blew up.
I was in third gear accelerating and it decided it didn’t like it.
What to do next......, what are your thoughts

T56 6 speed
Or
Auto of some sort? C4 or other 3 Speed probably
Or
Other?

I want something that will handle 500rwkw and not get destroyed.
I still want to use the car as a daily driver which makes me think the T56 and it’s a manual which I like, but if I get an auto then it’s down to the track for some quarter mile runs…. Not so suited to fanging around Phillip Island at 200km though in fact it would probably be doing 2,800rpm just at 110km.

T56 is also around the $8,000 mark installed which is a fair amount of money …..
My wife would prefer an auto though as she could drive it.

Nothing short of a powerglide will handle that kind of power reliably, do you really want a 2 speed?

I have had the C4 suggested to me by a few people, i am awaiting some pricing info to come back and some reccomenendations from the likes of Mal Wood.

I would love to keep the manual and it certainly has the driveability benefits but the auto's seem to be stronger.

A C4 wont last long with that much power either.

I say go the 6 speed or the cheaper 5 speed TKO box. Thats only $5500

Ive been told they dont handle much more than the box i had in there.

I spoke with Mal Wood, the T56 with 11 clutch and steel flywheel looks like the one. He says they have them in cars producing 1000hp (something i might aim for one day) so should do the job

He is getting info for me now.

Yeah pretty keen to go that way. As mentioned Mal has some 1000hp+ cars running them so they must hold up alright.

Also both Mal Wood and Brendan Mock say it is a very nice gearbox to drive with...

Looks like its the go, old box is comming out now and will be on it's way to QLD by the end of the week.

I'll try to get some photos when the new one arrives (+ inside oif the old one)
