This might seem ilke an odd question, but how tight should the rear shocks be? Its an el fairmont ghia, u pull the back seat forward and remove the plastic cover, then theres the top of the strut. I noticed a few days ago a clunk starting to develop (had the same noise a few years back in a different car, turned out to be a loose strut). The shocks and springs are only about 6 months old so i doubt it will be something bad.

Anyways, I got to the top of the strut and it can be tightened without too much force at all. I didn't want to just keep tightening in case this was a bad thing.

Info much appreciated.

It might be the bottom shock bolts too. If they aren't tight you get abit of a clunk as the shock moves a little bit.

I agree with voxace.
The upper bolts on the shocks only need to be reasonably tight but the bottom bolt needs to be TIGHT. If it isn't the shock can move side to side the tiniest amount and you hear it.

I agree with the two before me, the bottom shock bolts.

I had this problem, it drove me nuts. They must be TIGHT with the car on the ground too (I learned the hard way)...no a simple task with super lows :x :?

yeh i did mine last night and i just did the bolts up as tight as i could at the bottom and also the top nut, the tope nut has to be done with 2 shifters though, if not the shaft of the shocker turns and it makes it feel loose
