I had mine rebuilt just recently

These prices are trade prices,

Overhaul kit - genuine $128
Brake band Front - BTR $38
Friction Set - BTR $71
S5 Solenoid - genuine $143
Filter Assembly - BTR $17

That's what is listed on the invoice

Plus you'll need Trans fluid

I got mine done through a mate of mine for a total of $1150

so it would seem that's on ok price for the full kit then?

whats the weak point in these autos when you start to put a bit more power thru them mate?
what is commonly done to beef these autos up a bit?

cheers

EB/ED btr's are already among the strongest BTR's... rebuild it with an EF/EL/AU pump and run a trans cooler and it should be pretty strong.

EDIT: Most BTR's die because of two things... lack of maintenance and heat, ford should have put a proper transcooler on every single one.

That price seems OK. It depends on the quality of it. The better quality gasket, seal & ring kits use Viton instead of rubber for the clutch seals - which is more resistant to heat and doesn't shrink like rubber. Some manufacturers call it a "Taxi pack" kit. Raybestos make good quality friction plates that can handle a fair bit of abuse....But with those Ebay kits, you won't know the quality of it till you buy it. That kit that's listed is for a BTR93 (EF - AU) if you have a BTR85 or 91 (EA-ED) - make sure you get the right G S & R kit to suit your model trans, the valvebody & pump gaskets are different between the models and are not interchangeable.

As a basis for a high performance transmission, the BTR is not very good. They are described as one of the smoothest shifting transmissions ever made, so they are designed to slighty slip between changes to give a smooth shift - which is not good when you throw a heap more HP & torque through them. There is an allen key adjustment at the wire end of the S5, you can screw that in a bit to up the line pressure, but if you go too far, it will bang back through the gears when coasting down. The early planetarys etc are pretty tough if you don't mind the noise + the pumps are strong enough. The later ION93 (BA - onwards) planetarys & pumps are garbage - they used finer teeth to get rid of the geartrain noise, but they are too brittle & blow up EASY..

XR6T boxes had the earlier planery gears but the same small pump BTW.
