Quick question: If i get a standard clutch kit, does this include pressure plate or do i need to get the old one machined?

um. yes. you can buy the friction plate, pressure plate and thrust bearing seperately or together as a kit. just depends on what parts need renewing. i paid $160 for a new friction plate on the 5.0L cos there was nothing wrong with the pressure plate (if it ain't broke...). i think i'll get the whole kit next time though.

I always have found it better to replace the lot. Frist time i replace a clutch I just replaced the friction plate and ended up with worse shudder than I did before. Ripped it all out again and replaced the pressure plate and all was good.

Point is if your going to the trouble of doing the job, then it worth do it completely, less trouble in the future.

yeah i know thats what i was trying to say. I need the whole lot cause the whole lot is shot. was just working out what i need to do to get the whole lot.
Does anyone know what if any falcons use a hydraulic clutch? cause mine is cable driven. Do the XR's have it because of the heavier diaphram?

I was told by a mate in ford spares that a genuine XR clutch is way more than the 290 someone said before - each item is purchased separately (not in kit form) and the pressure plate alone was 600 bucks at mates rates...

I broke 3 fingers on the diaphram spring in my XF so its cheap insurance to change the whole lot. The clutch was f**k by that stage too so it all needed the treatment

Punnisher_42 - I changed my clutch in my EF XR6 about a few months ago. I put in a heavy duty clutch - $280 for the kit with both bearings, Pilot and Thrust........ I machined my own flywheel and had it lightened and re-balanced - makes a difference I tell ya.... I slapped it in my self and it felt like a new car from then on. But i recommend that if you wanna change it your self - make sure you can get the car off the ground pretty high otherwise you will stuggle. Thats was my problem - its a b**ch to change the ford clutch - starter has to come off, exhaust has to move, tail shaft comes off, etc. and you need a really long extension to get the bolts off the top of the bell housing. Then you have the struggle of oil dripping down your hands when you take the tail shaft off and start janking at it to come off, lol. Fun and games i tell ya.
Anyway I got that price from a family friend that owns a clutch and brake place in Camperdown Sydney.

Good Luck

i just wondering now because i have a clutch comming off ebay and it states that the diaphram is a v8 one, but it says it's for i6 motors. i hope i'm going to be able to push the clutch in with my cable driven setup...

I will get the mechanics to do it, they've quoted me 200 bucks and while they've got it apart i will get the flywheel lightened and rebalanced as you said. Just hope it won't take to long. I WANT MY CAR BACK :(
