Got a letter from Ford today saying my rear drive shaft needs replacing due to it not meeting specification and is subject to a failure when accelerating from low speed or standstill.
Anyone got any more information on this?

Yep is a recall for the tailshafts being f**k.

Went to see about it and its the tailshaft needs replacing, no failures have been reported so it begs the question how they know it needs replacement.

Probably during assembly they may have used a wrong nut/bolt/uni join/torque settings etc and only realised after the cars were shipped out.

what car is it? and what models does the recall cover?

Late 07 bf but it did not say what vehicles were effected just mine.

Apparently the shafts aren't water tight (it's a QC issue, not a design issue), and rust through from the inside.
There's a couple reports of such failures over at FFAU.

The engineering is fine, the manufacturing is the problem.

Its not like its one thing.......... its one thing after another, the aussie falcon is being written off by the public because most people who bought a new one in the last 20 years has never been back for a second bite !!! diff bushes, handbrake noise, handbrake levers, brake warping, brake hose failures, gearbox failures, clutch failures, BEM & climate control module & sensor failures, 6 stacker failures, aircon/heater failures, interior rattles/creaks/groans, idle problems, leaky motors, leaky gearboxes, leaky diff housings, faulty fuel tank floats, faulty fuel pumps, faulty dizzy setups, faulty coil packs etc etc. etc. people shouldnt support this rubbish product any longer, as they have been getting away with it for a long friggin time. Bring on the Ford imports, screw the aussie produced rubbish. |

So, this would effect FG's as well I assume?? Got a mate who had a somewhat terminal tailshaft failure, While it has been repaired now, Ford denied any warranty claim, however, FPV came striaght to the party, replaced the tailshaft and repaired all damage caused by the failure to the floorpan.
Tailshaft pic he sent me looked like it was packed with wet newspaper. So obviously moisture had got into the tailshaft and it had been over a period of time, Its not a car that gets driven regularly or hard either, He said he was stopped at an intersection, went to drive through in a normal fashion, got 3/4 the way through, car lost drive as he herd a pounding sound under the car, tailshaft remains slapping the tunnel. 30,000km on the car when this happened. get it fixed sooner rather than later is my advice. I have pics if any doubters doubt me. CBF supplying though.

This recall only affects BF MK1 and MK2 falcons.
