where should you go to get a stronger tailshaft. Looking for one to put in a EF Turbo... so it will need to be able to take a fair beating. **in vic**

thanks

Yeah its an auto.

Ypou should be able to go to any diff/tailshaft guy and get a good custom one made or you can adapt a stronger one from another model, make sure you put quality uni's in it

Yep, I went to the 'Diff Dr' here in Canberra, got an XR one rebuilt with race spec uni's and balanced/tested etc. When I get more time, he'll make me a toughened one good for 2500HP and 1200FtLb (he builds some for drag cars).

you can get the ones from the NT model. I think every Falcon sold in the NT had a carbon fiber reinforced tail shaft so they didnt snap like that when driving at such high speeds while on the high way. May even be cheaper.

Not that anyone should be doing those sorts of speeds on a public road of course...

lol macxr8 thats off the clock.. he he.
whats the go with some manuals having a sort of balancer on the gearbox end? my mate had an ea wagon with the balancer thingo on it up near the gearbox. it was a manual. but i have seen it on some auto's later models too like ef and el falcons.

My God thats insane DM!!

When I got my XR6, one of my first posts on here was regarding the Speedlimiter. I got flamed somthing chronic! Thanks to all that flamed me!!

Anyway, after the manual gearbox went in, I removed the limiter but I am thinking that I might have to get the shaft checked/replaced with a stronger one.

Anyway, good luck with the new Drive line. Hopefully this one will hold up!!!

Just read through the thread.

Damn you were very lucky indeed.
Spewing about the airbags ... apparently to get all that fixed the sensor(s) and control module need to be replaced as well ... not a cheap fix either.

As you pointed out ... it just goes to show why there's a speed limiter in the factory item :)

It's an experience like this that make your realise the severity of the damage when a tailshift does go. I recently saw a pic of a tailshift that let go and it ripped through the floorpan just under the driver's seat too.

The sound would not have been music to your ears ... that's for sure.

Ha Ha, just read back through the post's and noticed that NT ordered Falcs had special tailshafts to cope with out open speed limits! This has me worried as my ute is from Vic and some tool must have removed the rev limiter and speed limiter because I was able to hit 190km/h before chickening out and I've hit 6000rpm a couple of times cos I forget to change gears (auto and I put it in first sometimes)
