Yes I said it.

Those following my EEC modding thread will know I successfully removed speed limiter and raised rev limiter to 6250. Below is WHY there's a speed limiter.

Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image

Complete tailshaft failure, took out, the shaft (duh!), gearbox, exhaust, pobaly other s**t too, yet to see. Plus for some reason both airbags deployed. Poor Jake (dyno operator) wasn't too happy.

So to come:

two piece tailshaft
new box (will a xr6t auto bolt up???)
new exhaust (it was only 6 months old :()
airbags

But of course the real reason was torque that'd make a twin turbo V8 blush

one of the reasons we don't encourage removing the speed limiter on falcons... you are lucky it didn't happen on a road with other cars man!!!

That's why I wasn't testing it on the road, I'm not stupid.

Mate, I wouldn't have had my long a** one piece tail shaft over 160, let alone 180...

Still, that sucks what happened. Still, at least the you'll have a better car at the end of it all. Plus you'll give a few people some extra curriculam activities :D

So it was a 1pc 3" steel shaft yes? not designed for high speeds. This is why the E series XR6&8 and GT's ordered from the Northern territory had an alloy shaft wrapped in carbon fibre fiited as they have open speed limits there. Some of the pursuit vehicles had a 2 pce fitted with a cardon joint on the rear instead of a CV.

Yeah, looking at the pictures I was pretty surprised at how light the wall in that tubing is...

FYI: Motor have had an EF XR6 at 230km...

Not that anyone should be doing those sorts of speeds on a public road of course...

Yup, I never heard of it actually happening either, so thought the risk was slim, especially since it didn't appear to be vibration related, everythign was smooth and quiet (no funny noises) until it gave way, appear to just be twisted off, not a vibratino type shatter.

Live, learn, buy better parts.

And this was ONLY for dyno runs, never intend to go that fast on a public road.

We should make this a sticky thread and when the next 16 year old who comes on here asking how to remove the speed limiter from their Falcon and bragging that it will "easlilly" do 280km/h, point em in this direction

Ive had it happen to me. Took out the tailshaft, gearbox, and snapped the bellhousing in half. Scary s**t!

Yet somehow poeple think its safe to drive at 180kph+
