Hi all,

My power steering line where it bolts into the pump has a slow leak..

The nylon bush or seal or whatever it is, is loose or cracked or something and I can't stop the leaking.

Is there any way to change that nylon seal thing inside the line fitting? I had a look at a spare (also loose) and couldn't see any way to get it out.

cheers

Frank

Hi, without actually seeing it i'm wondering if you can use some plumber's tape (teflon tape) around the threads on the pipe? Easy to get hold of; Bunnings or Supercheap amongst others will have it, a few bucks a roll..

the thread isnt leaking... its behind the thread... I just found a post that details how to change the nut over, but I've also just found that Malz is open tonight and they have one whole unit for 70 bucks.. or I can just order one off ebay for 50 shipped.

Not sure what to do now.. time is my issue.

yeah thanks, I just found that thread..

Turns out I need to replace the whole thing, seems there is a crack or something down the other end as a full pump emptied itself down there in a minute. (top seeps out but the bottom is flowing)

found a repacement pipe at malz for 70 bucks so will get that.

I must have bumped the pipe when putting the engine in and cracked it or something.

damn think has been leaking top or bottom for so long now it will be good to finially have power steering that doesn't leak.

Or do what i did with my ED. Went to earls with the fittings, and had a proper PS line made up, with fittings that dont leak. No more nuts that work loose and o rings that fail. Will post pics in the morning.

yes. I've not picked one up yet so curious too.

The one I was gonna get is from malz and is a kelpro, looked like the fittings were different slightly from factory, but it has the same rotation bush in it though.

Try and ring some of your local power steering specialists. I had a quote for $80 odd for a new hose that was fabricated for EF/EL without the universal join bit that is prone to leaking, but instead it just has a straight tube into the back of the PS pump. I haven't had any leaks from it...the only leak I got was from the PS nut itself which was fixed up by some gasket maker (Permatex...it fixes a lot of leaks!). Bayford Ford in Victoria also sell them if you want them to post it, can't remember the price but it is also a modified version without the rotating join.
