Evening all

Finally got around to bleeding the brakes on my EF xr6 after still having air in the system when i upgraded brake lines last week. Anyway my mind was elsewhere obviously when i forgot to keep my eye on the fluid level in the master. I bled it pretty much dry :roll: .
Can someone please tell me how to bleed the master while its still in the car.

cheers
Tim

you'll have to bleed it through calipers. running the master dry like that puts air in the lines

So simply bleeding through the calipers will get rid of any air in the master cyl? I was under the impression you need to bleed the master seperately.

nope just keep bleeding the brakes until you have no more air in the system. im guessing that you are using a coke bottle and a piece of clear tube. it would be ideal if you could get some to press the pedal whilst you watch the fluuid.

also after you bleed each caliper check the fluid level in the Master Cyl or you will have to start again.

And lastly for godsake do not depress the pedal until it hits the floor. by doing this your making the M/cyl work outside of its normal operating circumstances therefore any s**t that is beyond this point will damage the seals

never knew bleeding brakes were this hard :S what happens when there is no more fluid in the brake system at all? cant u just top up the master and let the fluid slowly fill up the calipers? :S im a noob.

phong =P~

well if it's emptied out the master cylinder, you just fill it back up, bleed the brakes as per normal (disco frank's posted it).
keep an eye on the fluid, as you'll probably have a fair amount of air to get rid of.
i bleed my xr6's brakes yesterday, i haven't seen brown fluid in a long time.

Why is it necessary then to bench bleed a new master cyl before you install it into a car?
