Today I was driving and in 4th and 5th gear when on part and full throttle I can hear a light grinding noise . It's coming from the gear shifter .
I was doing around 70-80km and when I'm Crusing , no throttle the noise is gone .

On Saturday I put in penrite 75W80 manual gear oil , I put in 1.9L which is what the work shop manual says.

Any ideas what's causing it ?

Cheers

They are but on the penrite website it says this can replace the auto fluid .
I think I'll drop the penrite and put in dextrol 3 ive read it's what supposed to be used

did you notice it got harder to shift or any shinanigans like that?
youd think if it was the wrong stuff youd feel it when shifting etc..

Still feels the same shifting wise .

Been reading many threads and most people use castrol transmax z. I didn't make noises before the oil change so I'm thinking it don't like the penrite

Sorry to hi-jack, but I have read you are meant to put Lubrizoil 7906 in with the Dex III. Why and how much?

Penrite 75/80 is fine, I ran my T5's with that for years, Yes I added lubrizol.

Since then I only run Transmax-Z (with NO Lubrizol.

Saying its grinding in 4th Gear is something not to be ignored. There is only 2 bearings working under load, input shaft and main.

If the box is noisey has done more than 200,000k's and it was mine, I would be replacing those 2 bearings (around $60) just for the bearings, and this is only preventative maintanance.

if the penrite gear oil is synthetic there is no need to add lubrizol,
i would use either the penrite syn 80 gear oil or castrol tranzmax z, both are synthetic so no need for lubrizol..
lubrizol is only ment to be added to mineral atf like dexron...

the lubrizol is ment to stop the sincro rings from sticking/balking on gear changes.

Thanks for the explanation T-MAN. How much of the lubrizoil per fill should go in if using dextron?
