just got a t5 put into my el fairmont, and the gearbox is making weird and wonderful noises especially in third, its exactly like gearbox wine except its much louder, and when it is inder load it sounds like something is loose within the box itself in any gear other then 1st...

any help would be great

cheers
matt

i can only suggest 2 things..
either there is not enough oil in the box..
or the box is just about stuffed and needs a re build...

how much oil do you recomoend that i should put in there...i might just flush the oil in it and give it a little bit extra with some conditioner

it only needs to be filled untill the oil reaches the filler hole in the side of the box..
thats about 1.9 ltrs..
if it has auto fluid in it? replace it with gear oil..this will help quieten the noise...

otherwise it might be reco time!!!

it does a bit...oh well the best part is that its under warranty so if the box is rooted then they will either have to get it reco'd or replace it with another one...the only problem with buying second hand stuff that you cant see inside of is you dont know if its good or not...

I found gear oil was noisy, and auto fluid quiet on my tremec t5.

Gear oil is too thick for the t5, tremec specify auto fluid as gear oil can result in blocking ring damage (synchro's?)

The gearbox I got second hand had gear oil in it when I drained it and ALL the synchros are rooted. It whines like a supercharger under load, and rattles at low rpm load. The tranzmax z I put in it made it a lot quieter but the damage was pre existing so its still noisy.

Also I think my input shaft bearing and throwout bearing are up for replacement, as you can hear a dugger-dugger-dugger-dugger going on when in nuetral with the clutch out. engage clutch in nuetral and dugger noise goes quiet.

I would say some form of rebuild is on the cards. Use transmax z in your t5. its the best stuff you can use.

lol mine was the oposite..
i had trans fluid in mine and it rattled and whined like a b**ch..
so i am now using penrite fully synthetic gear oil and no more noise..
mine is a ea t5....
keep in mind its probably more a bandaid fix its only going to get worse...
