Have an EF 4.0L auto and im due for another trans service $100. I recently saw at repco trans filter service kits. im pretty sure that when i send it in that all they replace is the filter and oil. Has any one else used these kits and is there a good $$$ saving? no price from repco just 20% off.

not sure about the repco kits...

but can be done with east at home if u have enough height under the car

the only change the oil thats in the pan and the filter
they should also be giving the pan a clean too!

maybe 4 litres of oil is being changed

tranny service kit $25 from repco/burson etc.
tq 95 tranny fluid $30 for 4 litre (i usually use about 4.5 litres)

jack up front of car, ramps make this alot easier.
loosen all bolts off about a turn
remove the rear three completely
and slowly start loosening the middle and front ones so the pan drops at the rear only where you have your oil pan.

clean the old pan

replace the filter will probably need to pry out old o ring from the housing.
refit pan with new seal, evenly torqueing all bolts.

fill tranny up via the dip stick.

now go for a little drive to warm it up and recheck fluid level.

At work we also do transmission flushes. This is where we flush the transmissiom. We remove/drain the old oil and remove and clean oil pan if any and replace the filter and sump gasket and then refill the auto and add some cleaning agent and run the car through the gears and let it idle for 2 to 5 mins and then hook up our motor vac flush machine. This machine is connected between the auto lines between cooler and transmission and flushes the old oil out and replaces with new oil.But we end up using 13L of oil, thus it is a dear job.

how much of a difference do you find the complete flush gives you as opposed to a 4litre change?
