hey guys. i recently put a 5spd in my EA Fairmont. I was wondering whether the manual falcons had different Diff ratio to auto. how can i make it get off the line a bit quicker?. And would tightening the diff make much difference as i recently put a new left axle in it as it broke for some unknown reason  wen we put new one in i dont think the centre was reset as good as it could have been.? cheers.

was your EA a 3 speed auto ??? if so then you will be running a crappy 2.77 ratio if it was 4 speed should already have a good diff ratio for manuals usually a 3.23 changing an axle shouldnt have to touch the centre after doing that

get a custom 4.11 limited slip diffrential fitted in your car.
then get a 2.5 inch catback exhaust
then get some good extractors
then a air filter
total cost will set you back $2000 tops.
i garrantie you it will be well worth the money

4.11's might be a bit high with manual, i'd probably go for bout 3.7's.

yeah 4.11s is particularly high especially if its an EA 5 speed, EB 2 and onwards 5 speeds would work well with 4.11s and a modified 5th gear ratio.

oh s**t i forgot it was a manual, if its a ea t5 then go with 3.45's anything else and youl rev out to quickly. but still follow the other steps and maby even consider a aftermarket cam, but a cam wont make you any quicker off the line

yeah it was a 3speed. I've already got 2.5" sports exhaust and extractors and a K&N panel filter (sorry forgot to mention before). How much would a 3.45 LSD cost approx? Does anything come close in stock cars as we own a smash repairs shop and could possibly get my hands on a right off!!
(i'm soon to get the 1673 wade grinded cam shoved in aswell!!! :D)

if u find a EL XR6/8 or EL Ghia or EF XR6/8 or EFII Ghia - should all have 3.45 with LSD and ABS sensors

Nope doesnt matter. EF/EL diffs go straight in im sure you can bolt your old brake style onto them 2.

just swap the centres (make sure that u have a BTR diff not a Borg Warner diff)

but brakes should fit, handbrake will be different

The back diff covers are different too, EF & EL are different to EA to ED.
