Hi Guys,

Got a bit of a problem with first gear in the EF, the Box apparently had 160k Kms on it when installed iv now put about 4 - 5k more on it. Was a bit sloppy when installed and 2nd gear syncro has been a bit iffy.

Last night i went to pull into my girlfriends driveway, put it in first and let the clutch out as usual then i hear this fairly loud Thud/Bang come from the Box. Thought its just slipped out no biggie. Anyway when ever id put it in first and roll along with the clutch in it would make a metal on metal sound, with a bit of a hitting against something then back off and back against it. lol But it only did it in first gear, with the clutch out and moving the car is too loud to hear any noise anyway lol.

This morning on my way to work i thought id see if it still made the noise. Couldnt hear anything...

So im wondering what iv broken? Im fairly sure by the feel i havnt taken any teeth off it.

and Why it only did it last night?

Could it be a bearing and it only does it when the gearbox oil is hot? The drive to work is only 2km so its not long enough to get very warm.

Maybe the fingers on the pressure plate, or throwout bearing playing up?????

I'm thinking warped flywheel. Maybe clutch is down to rivets. Or the flywheel has met rivets before, wasn't machined and it's warped.

The clutch was brand new, and fly wheel machined. Tho when installed the flywheel did a have dent near one of the locating dowels, if anything its a touch off balance. But this noise only started happening after it slipped out of gear and went Bang....

Had a chat to a mate and he seems to think iv cained a bearing for first gear.

Im just gonna keep driving it, till i get my next car in a few weeks, then fix it sometime later lol
