Within a week my engine is being replaced under warranty. As the warranty is up in the next 4 months, I'm viewing this as a green light to do some future modifications.

As the thing is being cracked open, I'm after some advice on whether I should consider a clutch replacement, and if so, what would be the best one to pick? Existing clutch has done 73000km.

It's a std MKI XR8 at the moment. I'd look at doing only some basic reversible mods, like cat inclusive OR just cat-back exhaust, throttle body and a flash tuner. Depending on the cat or no-cat option, I'd expect no more than about 320 FwKw going by most reports.

Should I look at anything else in the Ford Catalogue - like a MKII or BF XR8 or GT Clutch?

Outside Ford I've found:

Intune Stage 1 - $795 (325 kW)
Stage 2 - $895 (425kW)
Herrod - Not yet available
CAPA Clutch + FW - $1125
Mal Wood - About $695 without FW. Add about $450 for FW.

Are there others?

Yes, oil consmption. Since new. We've been monitoring it for ages.

New motor is sitting on the floor at the dealer right now. Is scheduled for early next week as that's when the loan-car is available.

I think it was just a few from the original batch of engines. Since then I haven't heard of any with the problem. It hit XR8 and GT built motors alike.

Mine's a June '03 build, which is only a few months after they went on sale.

I'm trying for a Territory so I can woo the missus into one (You never know if you never ask, Ifigured it was worth a try - I have tried once before but lucked out then), but it will likely be the new Focus that they normally lend out.

A Territory Turbo is on the radar, although I could be persuaded to look at an XR5T since the price is pretty damn impressive. Depends on if the missus want's just economy, or if she needs the 7 seats like she says she does.
