Thanks for the info guys, i think i will go with 4:11's, i think it'll be sweet.

Where is the cheapest place to buy 4:11's? I'm assuming a wrecker, but can't really be bothered pulling them out of a wreck. Can you get them new off ebay?

I got them of Ebay and installed for less than $500
Only took just over 1 hour.

Here is the IMPORTANT BIT. (Something I've never mentioned before)

There are two offsets inside the diff housing.
One type will require only a spacer, the other requires work done on the actual housing.

If you start with a FACTORY FITTED 3.45 diff, as fitted to EFII and EL I6 Ghias and XR6s, the fitment is easy, and cheap. (thus the price in my previous post)

The diff shop that did my gears is on Newmarket Rd on Brisbane's Northside.

He knows his stuff!

Ah hah! So my diff housing is the one thats needs a little love from the grinder to clear the gearing? Thats easy enough.

Backlash and preload is a peice of piss too.

I might install the gearing and one of those cheap a** ebay lsd centres too while i'l at it, as currently no lsd for me.

Looks like I made a mistake in my previous post... quoted the wrong RPM for KM/HR. So to correct the mistake, below is a image that should help.

Does this mean that the top speed of your car might be 150-160ish due to tail shaft issues? If so can you put a replacement tail shaft in that will handle high speed?

I have an alloy tailshaft atm, can you get them balanced?

Sorry to 'steal' this thread, but I am sure others would be interested about this too.

Cheers

FairmontXR6, have you corrected your speedo? it just seems weird as my 5 speed with 3.7's sits at 2300 at 100km/h.

Ah hah, this is quite a comparisan, yours being manual, if i was to fit 4:11's, it'd be revving quite high at 100.

Mine currently revs at 1950 ish at 100 with 3.23's
Yours currently revs at 2300 at 100 with 3.7's
So, with these comparicsons, applied to a calculator, i came up with my car with 4:11's will revs 27% faster at 100kmh, which equals 2475 ish rpm.

I think i can handle that.

The EL Ghia ECU has now limited the car to approx 158km/hr (has a speedo corrector).
Went down willowbank drag strip to find that out.
Before the diff gears/speedo corrector, the speed limiter was 210km/hr, as done in a burnout :D (Yes, it was legal)

As previously mentioned on the first page of the post (and above), my EL Ghia has a Four Speed Automatic.
