My falcon makes this whurring sound constantly, and i'm sure it's a driveline thing cos it only does it in gear. Does anyone know what is going on here?

Also, what worries me more is when i drive forward and reverse slowly the back wheels seem to 'stall' for a while and then 'jump' with a clunk. could there be something loose? Could the handbrake be jamming for a little while? Could the diff be rooted and give me a good excuse to get an LSD?

I hope it's nothing really serious, but knowing my luck.........it is.

hmmm, sounds like its your diff, put it in neutral, HANDBRAKE ON, get under the car and grab your tailshaft, try to turn it, if it moves at all, its your diff

Sounds like the diff to me as well. Just had mine rebuilt for the same problem.

Sounds like some excessive backlash issues and a worn pinion bearing. The whurring noise would increae/decrease depending on speed, which would indicate pinion bearing.

Unfortuately requires a rebuild.

Or might be easiest to put a replacement 3.45 diff in... :D

not worth getting a secondhand 3.45 diff, most wreckers want $700+ for them, to get your diff rebuilt with new 3.45 gears and an LSD centre is about $800-$1100
