My brother's EL 6 on gas, has developed a weird electrical fault over the last few days.
Basically if you hold the brake down, the dash lights come on, and if you switch the ignition off with the lights on and foot on the brake, the car will still stay on and wont turn off until you turn the lights off.

Ideas? I thought it may have to do with the battery terminals as loose cables can cause strange behaviour, but they seem fine.

Edit: I was just thinking that this should probably have been in the 6cyl section.

Earths certainly sound likely, sounds similar to this one:
gearbox-suspension-brake-driveline-f4/what-is-wrong-with-my-lights-t48627.html
Possibly, the brakelight power is feeding into the parklight cct, due to poor earths.
Check out the dash earth - under the fascia near the RH tweeter speaker.
Otherwise, check out the stoplight bulbs - are they dual filament ??
Then check out the earths for the bulb holders.

I'm guessing there's no brakelights during this ??

What work on the car was done leading up to this ???

I'd also first be checking grounds. Has he taken the dash apart lately? I think there is a main ground for the dash; it's located behind the panel you need to remove to see the tweeters. It is held by an 8mm bolt that is painted green (at least on my car). Some other common items I'd be looking at to eliminate as a cause are the brake light globes, trailer plug (if any) and the brake switch. Let us know how you go and then we can dig further.

Thanks guys

Got around to have a look at it today and found the tail light filament had welded itself to the brake light.

All good.

Thanks again.
