I think he means when someone says a fully manualised auto.

I've got no idea but wondered this myself.

They are automatic gearboxes that will never change gears on its own and will shift as soon as you tell it to. Basically they have had the valve body modified so it wont change gears by itself. You usually use these with ratchet or aftermarket shifters. Very good for drag racing.

lol - thanks for the comments :)

Its not the sort of thing you usually just put in without having a good reason.

Your practically going to be limited to a 3 speed auto (C4)

You would pay anywhere from $100 upwards for a 2nd hand auto in working condition. You probably want to get it rebuild which can be done on the cheap upto several thousand $ depending on how many HP you want to build it for. A reverse pattern manual valve body will cost round about $450, and a shifter to suit $250 and up.

Depending on what engine your putting it behind, you may need a custom bellhousing costing $500-750. Add other items like converter, cooler and lines, and driveshaft modifications.

The newer 4 speed autos found in e-series and later dont need valve body modifications as they are electronically controlled. You do need a replacement TCU, and I cant say ive ever seen them for the ford autos.

E-series autos will stay in gear while the handle is selected in 1, 2 or 3. When going to D i guess it hits 4th if your going fast enough.
I guess its sort of but not quite manualised.
