802.11 is a wireless ethernet protocol. this needs to be driven off your ADSL modem. either your connection (copper) to the exchange is s**t house, you have an ISP that is blocking torrent traffic or your router port forwards arent working correctly.

NextG is very impressive.. and 3G/HSDPA isn't too shabby either at 3mbit/sec. Both are theoretically capable of faster speeds than traditional 1.5Mbit ADSL.

true, but these are dependant on weather, buildings, distance, terrain. the faster speeds you want the more power your mobile device needs to consume. also telstra charge outrageous prices for usage. coverage can be patchy

AFAIK telstra offer then fastest wireless broadband, running at 7.2mbp/s. my adsl2+ connection runs at approx 7.8mbp/s, and im in what they call "3rd area" or something like that - basically i have no hopes of reaching optimum "adsl 2+ speeds (20+mb/s)" but because of techno mumbo jumbo thats what i get. although, compared to optus cable, my current lat is higher but my downloads go quicker in some circumstances.

I tried the Optus wireless 3G and man was that s**t. Got up to around 120kB/s on a clear day but as soon as it hit 6pm it bogged right down to 3kB/s and kept dropping out. So much for download speeds of 3Mb/s. I know that's their max speed but I'm only getting a maximum speed which is less than 3% of what they claim i could get.
