If anyone is interested in buying parts to install or to make a new computer I would suggest that you keep clear of IJK in Sydney.
I purchased a HDD in there last Friday and found that there was a chip on the Printed Circuit board, small but still not good. I had my mate take it back and they point blank refused to swap or exchange or give money back and told some BS about them having to return the drive to the Manufacturer.
I tried for 2 days to talk to the manager and was told he wasn't there and so on Wednesday this week I went down there to front the guy. I got to talk to him and his attitude is that I damaged it and so they won't do anything. HE told me that Logic dictated that as the drives are all shipped in protective packs (the silver lined anti static bag) that it could ONLY be that I had mistreated it?????

I asked for the drive back and he refused so I started ringing the police and told him so, he then decided to give it back to me. The WORST service I have EVER experienced. I have bought thousands of dollars from there over the last 9 years and this is the treatment?

I have lodged a complaint with Fair Trading NSW. The person at IJK didn't even want to acknowledge that he has to either refund or exchange the drive, the LAW says so.

So, if anyone is thinking of going to this place to buy goodies be careful, think twice as these people are quick to take the money but that is all. If you need parts, go to MSY @ 219 Parramatta Road Auburn, better prices and better service.

End of rant.....

As for the chip, was the hard drive working or never tested on your end? Superficial or did the chip interfere with operation?
Could've also been a manufacturing fault and somehow got through QC

I have never used any other branch but Enfield, even when they were further down the road. I have been a customer for more than 9 years, sad state of affairs.

By the look and position of the damage I would say it has been more than likely done when it was packed into the bag.

I couldn't see why the manager person was so dogmatic that I did the damage. It's ok though, he WILL be doing something regardless of what he THINKS he can as Fair Trading is now involved. I run a business myself and always try to keep on top of rules and regs covering this sort of thing, I would be only too willing to exchange a drive from a customer especially if it was a customer that had bought thousands of dollars off me.

In my daily job we get lots of parts from Ford that are damaged when we get them, even in boxes that have no outside damage. This clown down at IJK is going to learn about this sort of thing the hard way.

Gee talk about poor customer service. I used to buy from MSY, however I had one bad encounter where my motherboard died within a month. They blamed it on my installation and didn't replace it under warranty...so instead they sent the mobo over to the manufacturer to get it "fixed". It came back 2 months later without the problem fixed, but with more damage. Not wanting to wait another 2 months for the mobo, I just went and bought another brand from another computer store who was happy to help me out as well as give me a discount.

So I have steered clear from MSY unless it's peripherals.

Yeah that's where I go now. They have helped me a lot...even though the prices may be a little bit more expensive, at least they have good customer service.

Well speaking of service from Centre Com. On Sunday 1:30pm, I went with my son to look at a new computer for him and wife.Centre Com staff could not have been more helpful, in fact he could have walked away with his new package on the day,but chose to pick it up this weekend. No 1 in my books.

When ever a component fails, by default it has to be RMA'd, the suppliers mandate that all warranty repairs are done this way, since nothing is produced in Australia its all back to backwater Taiwan to be looked at.

With this in mind, they will also charge a restock fee, that one is a rort, they are not allowed to under law anymore but many still try it. I personally avoid MSY after too many pear shaped adventures, Fluidtek at carlingford is good in my books as long as you know EXACTLY what you are after. Is it still too much to ask for a little customer service to go with the rock bottom prices? there are slim margins in alot of home pc stuff these days.

But each computer shop seems to think they are the only one around and say f**k the customer, I'll do what i want. So walk away and spend your hard earned somewhere else that will appreciate it. No loyalty from a shop, they get none from me either.

end late night rant.

Yeah, I've bought gear from them over the years - they were known as Umart IIRC, the QLD ones still are Umart I think - why these guys changed names I don't know.
They still run out of the old Enfield RSL ?? IIRC they used to be over toward Ashfield.
Touch wood I've never had a hassle with their gear - but I guess was always cautious of these 'warehouse' style operations.

This said, I know many people (inc me) that have built systems from there & not had issues. Seen a screen or 2 with dead pixels but nothing major. My next built will be largely sourced OS & mail order as it'll be a big impressive one
