just to add to that, a mono 3.5mm jack will have only 1 black ring around it instead of 2 for a stereo. Have a look in Jaycar for some, should be very cheap. There may also be settings in your audio drivers for mono sound if your lucky

Transmitter sets are available for use on TV,so that volume isn't annoying to those with good hearing.
