Hi All
I am at the stage of the beginning many upgrades to my 1998 EL XR6. The first thing I want to do is upgrade the ECU. I was looking at a Chip Torque setup But I wouldnt mind hearing some suggestions from some of you guys. Any advise or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks All

Wade

Hi Wade,

Look at Haltech or EMS. Spending money on anything less is probably a waste. They both represent good value for money.

See sticky on ECU comparison :D

Also depending on how far you go will detetmine what you need. Mild mods most done at the same time = chip, More major mods or forced induction = stand alone/piggyback ecu. As you will see from the comparison the price for cheap stand alones is only slightly more than a chip.
IMO an ecu that is controlling the spark plugs and injectors directly will be much better than a chip that is modifying inputs to the standard ECU.

That should probably be the last thing you do otherwise you'll have to pay to have it retuned after your planned upgrades and depending on how you go about it, that can be costly. You'll see an improvement on a stock motor but obviously there's more to be had with more mods. See how far you're going to go with mods and then judge what you need. Unless you're going to do it all in one hit I'd hang off a little on the ECU
