Ride: 2009 FG XR6 turbo project

Location: perth

to those of you who remember me (havent been on for a while)

i recently got myself a 2009 xr6 turbo, im selling all my escorts and escort stuff, to go towards buying a daily driver such as EL fairmont or XR6, and the FG is my new project car.

i traded in my 2008 FG XT (for the xr6 turbo) which was standard, apart from that i havent had much to do with EFI systems.

so for those of you with the knowledge, im asking for a rough outline of some of the bolt on and worthwhile mods you can make to this motor...

obvious things that spring to mind is intercooler upgrade, turbo upgrade, exhaust upgrade etc...

but i dont know much about these things, or even whats the best brand to go for, like i said its my new project car so i want to do it once and do it right..

i wish to learn, cheers shaggy

heres some details and pics of the car in question

2009 Fg XR6 TURBO
" seduce " in colour
full leather
6 speed auto ( because the mrs doesnt have a manual license )
reverse camera
revers sensors
some weird electronic pedal adjuster option
premium sound
towbar

Wouldn't it be better to wait until the warranty ran out?

Either way, nice looking car.

cheers,

so basically there are no aftermarket performance mods i can do to the car without voiding warranty?

its not really that big of a deal, i work a 2-1 roster, so i just want a daily for my partner to use for work/ shopping trolley... the FG will spend most of its time locked in my shed

:?...if you're going to buy a car like that, why not just drive it? It's a nice looking ride...shouldn't be kept in the garage IMO.

I have minimal knowledge with post E-series, so can't really help you out much on mods.

yeah i know, but my other FG was just a stock white XT, and that was our daily.. but my ex of over 2 years ago felt the need to pour coke all over it... so the new one is going to be kept in the shed and only used when im home for a few reasons.. such as i dont want it sitting in the weather while im away, i dont want coke poured all over it and the mrs is scared of the car and doesnt want to reverse it out of the shed.. so its just easier to buy a daily :)

but yeah, now i need to find out what mods i can do that wont effect the warranty?

ok here goes i have 2 fg turbo ute's a 09 with 373rwkw and a 10 with 312rwkw and both are full of all the mods your after knowing about,,, but b4 you start throw your warranty in the bin now , because you wont have one anymore , but who needs that anyway there built tuff these little babys ! first and foremost you will need a cappax3 flash tuner $715 posted to w.a from s.a then its all about the air in and exhaust out , on my 09 i have a process west air intake and the batteries located where the stock one was and a twin 2half inch manta exhaust with a 4" dump $3500 fitted and tuned and on the 10 i have a 4" dump 5" cat and 4"xforce pipe all the way to the back with twin tips on the end so it dont look gay $2500 without a tune'' they both have 60lb dakar injectors as well $350 of ebay, which you have to space out the fuel rail to make them fit on the fg unlike the earlier cars ! the 10 has a growler airbox and v8 snorkel $579+$65 for the snorkel , the 09 has a nizpro big mouth intercooler $2500 polished and fitted because they only come in black or grey ,but are by far the best cooler for the fg on back to back testing , the 10 has a process west v2 stage 2 intercooler $1880 not fitted , on my 09 i put the ba,bf,f6 turbo on it because i snapped the standard one in 2 running 2 much boost with hardley any other mods (18lb) the drags might not have helped either though , i have a earls oil feeder on both cars and the 09 has a overboost valve instead of a BOV and thats about it i think ! the biggest bang for my buck was in the exhaust about 40hp from memory , on the 09 i done it bit by bit when i had the coin and i also needed it as a daily work bus so couldnt have it off the road for anymore time than 1day , but with the 10 it sat there until i had all the parts then had it tuned once it still only has 5200k's on the clock now , ok good luck with it all its addictive so look out
rgs marc.
id post pics if i could work out how 2 ;-{

That doesnt always work! I've had several new cars and always going back to dealer for warranty repairs/problems... i've had to replace a turbo on one of my cars that had less then 10k on it.. my old man had a new motor in his BA futura before it hit 15k

I'd keep the warranty for now.. in my opinion! if you dont care then go for it.. but it will save you a lot of money and grief when things go wrong if they do... may as well get what you can from them!
