got quoted $544 for the crane 2030 cam from Superplus in Hallam, Vic. Also $132 for retainers, $105 for springs and $125 for venier timing chain set. Is this reasonable?? Anywhere else in melb that could be cheaper?

thanks

Perhaps buying directly from Crow themselves may save you a few bucks

Shop around, you should be able to pick the cam up for under $400, The other part prices look okay though. Also do you know the brand of the timing chain set. Rollmaster's are amongst the best and their 12 keyway versions are around $100 usually. Don't know if they do crane, but give VPW a call, I find they are usually pretty cheap.

Seems pretty steep. Even Herrod quoted me only $700 to change the cam in my V8. nad we all know what their prices are like...

I am going through this myself at the moment...

My Crane 2030 is unused but bought second hand for $250

From VPW I bought Crane 44308-1 valvespring kit $240, and Rollmaster timing chain set for $120.

I also bought a valvespring shim kit for $30, so I can get the proper install height for each spring.

You will most likely need to by longer pushrods. In theory, they would be 0.060" longer than stock (stock is 6.270" I think?), but you won't really know until the cam is in and you can measure it all up.

I bought myself some adjustable roller rockers instead, LOL.

Just got priced $330 from Eagle auto spares in dandenong, so i will get it from them. Im getting retainers $132, springs $105 and vernier timing chain set $125 from superplus. Might get push rods later with rollers.
Do I need anything else? Wat parts are you guys using - Crane springs etc?

Are you planning on installing it without roller rockers? I really think roller rockers are a must with any cam upgrade on the windsors. Also the crane springs aren't the best option IMO, they are still single springs and can cause harsh valvetrain harmonics. I would recommend some double row springs, they are generally nicer on the valvetrain, I use crow double row springs which cost about the same as the cranes. Part number for the springs are 7738 and retainers are 11700, I got them from VPW.

Yeah Yella Terra or Crane do some nice 1.6 rockers to match that cam. I use the Crane ones and find them very good.

I would just go with the non-adjustable ones, I have fitted a number of cams with non-adjustable rockers and never had a problem getting correct geometry and pre-load, plus the adjustable ones aren't suppose to fit under stock valve covers. Crane rockers should be a bit cheaper I think, I have used both the Yella Terra and Crane rockers on my engine and both seemed very good quality.
