I have noticed that my XR8 seems to lose a bit of oil between services. I change the oil every 3-4000km's and in that time it loses between half and 1 litre of oil. It has a perfect service history with only 50,000K's, no leaks whatsoever, blows no smoke but still needs the odd top up. Is this a common problem with this motor or has anyone had similar issues? Obviously its not a huge problem as i check my cars weekly for fluids etc, just wanted to know why it would be losing any at all. Thanks

You drive it hard (high revs)?
It'll be sucking it through the PCV into the intake and burning or depositing it in the plenum. Get some catch cans. (or stop driving it hard.  )

Of course i drive it hard... at times. Just cruises to work and back if i decide to take it, but love giving it a boot. Hardly ever hit redline, 5k it stops making power so rarely push it past it.

It's common for them to collect oil in the plenum. catch cans will prevent this - letting it condense and fall back into the engine instead of being sucked through the intake.

I (and many others) use the Herrod Catch Cans.
http://www.herrodmotorsport.com.au/Herr ... fault.aspx Not the cheapest option, but they're proven, and don't look half bad either. I beleive BluePower have an option now. Or you could make something to suit using cheapie stuff form ebay/autobarn etc.

haha yeah your not wrong, lukcy for me I purchased a gasket at a discounted prices as one of my best mates happens to be a mechanic at our local ford dealer, better yet he gave me a hand just in case something went wrong. A few beers and some subaru upper cylinder and head cleaner later and bobs your uncle one clean plenum. I also gave the throttlebody a good clean while I was at it. When I was at bluepower in melbourne it dyno'd at a lazy 232rwkw in which I expected it a little more considering its mods, they told me build up in the plenum is the likely culprit, and I did notice a difference after doing so. I'll be doing it again before the oil seperator kit goes on just to be sure

Did you clean the TMAP sensor while you were at it?
