Hey Guys,

Got my hands on a second set of Heads for my motor and im looking at getting the heads ported out, but i want someone who knows what they are doing and has a bit of experience with these heads. My bro got his V6 heads done for $500 but got no idea how much it will cost to get these done.

Ive done my research and it seems that you have to get the port shape "Just right" to get maximum benifit and the old rule "Bigger is better" does not apply here.

Let us know your thoughts.

I'd do some research in the US, they've a lot of R&D on the 3 valves, because they were common on the 'ordinary' mustang's. And the 4v were special.

What he said.

If you want a local option only and are prepared to spend the coin then either KEC or Pavtek. Pretty much anyone who has a CNC coordinate measuring machine so they can get a 3D map of your ports and create an optimum model before a cutting tool goes anywhere near your head.
The uni has a manual coordinate measuring tool but its a royal b**ch to use. if you don't follow the right sequence you get rubbish results. Hardly worth the $30k odd they paid for it when it can't even properly measure a few square channels.

Hand porting would be okay I guess but for modern heads that flow so well out of the box, its easier to lose power than make power if you are not 100% sure on what you are doing.

Hey Guys,

Cheers for the input, i found a guy in perth who will do them - Harris Engines. He done the heads on my brothers car and that goes hard so ill get him to do mine too. Getting them done for $1000. Just contemplating putting the heads onto the car myself, the hard part though is getting the VCT sprockets and the timing chains back in the correct timing. Spun me out though how you torque the head bolts up, nothing like the old pushrod motors.

Cheers,

$1000 seems awfully cheap to get your heads ported bye a professional, or is that just for a tidy up, cost me nearlly 3 grand to have mine ported intake and exhaust sides, mine are CHI 3v's not like your 3 v's, i got mine done by head torque, and these guys no there s**t...
what is it exactually that your aiming to get from your head work..?
the old rule bigger is better is not true at all and never has been it's an old wives tale,
what you need is a balance between port size and port velocity, bigger port ussually means you lose port velocity speed and the all important suspention of fuel in the air mix and turbulance with in the runner, there are many other contributing factors that are very tech , i by no means no my s**t when it comes to heads , this is just my understanding, and what i discused when i got my heads done...
hear is before and after flow sheet of my heads when headtorque were done with them....
