Hi folks, Im new here so please be gentle on me. I have a 91 EBXR8 that I have been messing around with for a little while now. Its actually my daily driver, (my project car is a 351 clevo XE) but I started tiding it up and doing a few small mods and, well, you know how it goes, Im getting all carried away, lol.
Anyway, I had a B&M Quicksilver ratchet shifter lying around and thought Id try and install it. Given the instructions only cover installation to most of the better known and commonly used autos, I am pretty much having to custom install this bad boy. Im wondering if anyone else has done this and if they have any pointers for me cause I cant find any info, hell, I dont even know what type of trans is in this car, I assume its some kind of Borg Warner or somehing, lol.
So far I have the shifter installed in the car and set it up for use with a 4 speed, I have modded one of the brackets that came with it and bolted that to the trans crossmember, which seemed to line the cable up almost perfectly with the trans gear selector. I have removed the stock shifter linkage from the gear selector and the cable pretty much went straight on in its place, was almost too easy!
The problem I am having is that I cant seem to select either park or 1st gear! The shifter seems to be having trouble selecting the gears at the extreme ends of its travel! Is this just an adjustment thing or is it due to the length of the gear seletor shaft on the trans? My basic knowledge of geometry tells me that the lever may be a little too long and the cable cant move it far enough to select first and park. Any advice will be aprieciated as its driving me crazy!!
Thanks guys :)

I would have a guess and say it's set up for a 3 speed ??

Nope, have made the necessary adjustments to make it work for a 4 speed and it will ratchet 4 times from the neutral position, so the shifter itself is working as it should.

I think you answered you're own question. The cable end needs to move closer to the shaft of the lever. I doubt B&M will have a new arm for the BTR trans....they probably don't even know what a 95LE is. Time to make your own or mod the stock one.

Yep, thanks XR, that was the problem! There are several different levers and brackets in the box, so I took one that is supposed to work on a Turbo350 and addapted that to suit. The one on the BTR has a slot in it to locate it in the right postion and the turbo 350 one is similar but the hole is a little large. I just put a little weld in the hole and filed it to the right size, wacked it on and pow, job done!! Works great now :)
Now, can someone tell me where to get a shift kit for one of these things so it actually changes gear when I hit the stick :) ??

Try shiftkits.com for an electronic job. Or you can make one yourself.

Yeah, no probs guys, I will take a few shots tomorrow and post em up, along with a few pointers.
I can tell you it has completly changed the way the car drives! I drive it like a manual now and you can get so much more power out of it. Change down to second as you approach a slower corner and instead of the auto slipping into 3rd, it stays locked in 2nd so if you floor it coming out of the corner, there is no hessitation as you wait till the auto kicks back, it just hooks up and goes! I know you can drive it like this with the standard shifter but I would always punch it too far forward in the heat of battle, lol!

Sounds like it isnt setup for a 4spd auto. You will need to purchase a 4spd gate plate, replace the 3spd one with the 4spd one you will have to party dismantle the shifter mechanism to do this.
