Not running a BOV isn't what is causing the problem is it?

I remember reading something once that not running a BOV causes this weird fluttering noise when changing gears... Something to do with compressed air hitting the compressor wheel and is supposed to be really bad for it... Just can't remember what they called it now... Has some special name... Someone will pop in shortly who knows what I am on about...

Cheers,
Tim
