Hi guys, long time no speak.

My wagon has a problem.

It decided to get REALLY hot on the weekend coming back from a highway trip, got home and turned the heaters on flat out to cool it down for a minute but to no avail.

there was a HUGE amount of pressure in the cooling system and a foam ontop of the coolant in the header tank.

Have i blown a head gasket? :(

Check your oil. Is it milky? Pull your plugs, is one washed clean? How does it sound when it's running? Is it blowing heaps of smoke when it's running?

Doesn't sound like a blown head gasket then. If it's still within NORMAL on the gauge, then it's not overheating... unless it's constantly going up and you shut it down when it got to the O. Maybe see if it gets close to the red before shutting it down. Are your fans switching on?

STICKY THERMOSTAT? have the coolant tested for hydrocarbons--dye check at a radiator place, only bad thing is it cant tell which head.a compression test might.other wise do both heads and change the bolts,as they are a strech bolts.

so it wasnt a replacement you picked up,just the original one clogged up.2-3 core cross flow will take the easiest flow path and block it up.after a quick engine rebuild,i re used my radiator again, flushed it both ways and flow looked good---wrong.it got hotter than before x2 in running in and didnt come back to normal.i got lucky when i was in sydney and blew the brake booster,i recalled a member wrecking a boat and a few calls to get the info,i got the booster and a near new radiator and extras.we fitted the booster to get me home and i swapped the rest out.drove to melboure the next day---all good, thanks matt.
