Hi all
Can a hi flow panel filter cause a power surge at around 2800-3800rpm?
Im trying to track down a power surge since fitting a balance pipe and a hi flow panel filter. The gas systerm has been fitted for around 3 years. It may just be time for a converter rebuild. Is there a inline filter before the converter that may need replacing?

Is there anything anyone could think of that would cause a power surge at this type of rpm.

Thanks all

It's lean.

Is the surge at part throttle or full throttle?

Where is the balance line fitted?

It surges from half to wot. It realy starts in seconds and gets bad in third and tapers of again in forth.
The balance pipe is placed at the start of the intake at the bonnet. Is this the right spot?

Is the line just on a straight barb into the side of the snorkel?
I've measured that set up with a manometer and in some cases the air rushing past the end of the barb will actually create a negative pressure in the balance line, (the opposite to what you want)

In forth gear you probably have enough speed up to pressurise that part of the intake and in first there isn't enough load on the engine for the lean mixture to be a problem.

If you can, put a 90degree fitting in. so that the part inside the snorkel faces the incoming air.

Just to prove its happening, take the balance off the intake and poke it through a gap to infront of the radiator. the surge should be gone.

There is a 90deg elbow facing out of the snorkel. It is larger then the hose. Could this be giving me the problem. I have replaced the high flow with a stand and the problem only gets worse.

that elbow is there to help prevent the problem.

Can you take a few photos of the setup?
