I have an AUII falcon with dual gas, i'm building a new controller for my gas system (to work with my megasquirt) and i'd like to be able to have the dash fuel guage reflect the fuel being used. I know I can get a compatible level sender (and may just do this) however I was wondering if I could instead input a voltage into the fuel guage wire (connecting to the dash). As surely the cluster would just form a simple voltage divider to turn the variable resistance into a voltage?

easier to just buy the right level sender and use a changer over relay.

Yes I know, and I may consider that - but at the moment i'd like to intercept and reintroduce the sensors - i've got a way to read the sensors (does anyone know how much current I can put through each? I want to put 25mA through the petrol sender and 50mA through the LPG) but i'm still hanging up on the output.

two ways you can do it one is a digital potentiometer, and the other is using PWM, i've used the latter to run stock XB oil and temp gauges off a custom control unit

your fuel sender runs on a verible resistance
most lpg gauges are 0-90 ohms
when they put in twin tanks you put in two 0-45 ohm senders and hook them to the one gauge
and from memory the ford gauge runs a 2-270 ohm gauge
when they integrate the dash gauge you match the sender to the car
