Wondering if there are any GPS manufacturers like TomTom or Garmin etc. that have free up to date map downloads?

Garmin Nuvi now have lifetime map updates.

TomTom (New Via models) have 10 map updates over 3 years iirc.

If you can get the older tomtom models like the Go720 920 etc. as map updates can be 'bought' very easily and updated with a program called FastActivate.

I'm a big fan of tomtom and prefer their guidance. and now they have lane guidance and post code search.

Garmin would have to be the 'best' layout overall, but each to their own.

A few months old, but Garmin maps are great and having lifetime free updates is brilliant. I also do a lot of 4WDing and use the free "Shonky Maps", which while not as good as Hema are still pretty good and $210 cheaper!
