has anyone done this conversion here?
what issues will i come across?
using the 4 speed auto too.
i have a complete NA fairlane donor car. so wiring, computer etc isnt/shouldnt be an issue.
engine mounts, transmission mount, exhaust clearance..
what do you know?
what knowledge can you pass on?

thank you.

I dont have all the awnsers, but I will tell you what I know:

* Use XA-XE V8 engine mount base plates, and the motor itself will bolt straight in.
* XC V8 Power steering lines should still fit
* There wasnt enough transmission tunnell clearence on my XF for a BTR, I assume XC would have that issue too, maybe an XG Ute trans tunnell can be welded in? or even an E series one.
* See if you can get the wiring out of a Pre smartlock vehicle, it will make the wiring lots easier.
* Tailshaft length shouldn't be an issue
* Many early windsor parts will fit a late 5 litre and may be more compatible with the XC, so keep that in mind when doing a conversion.

Hope this helps,
Gab

thanks for that..
good to know itll bolt right in.
can cut the trans tunnel from the NA, i imagine thatll solve it if i run into trouble..

this smartlock system.. its been bypassed in my XG panel van, so i assume it can be done for the NA too. i bought the pano already tampered with, so i dont know how they did it.. but you can ebay a module i see.. should be easy.

my cars have always been pre efi, besides the pano.. so this is all new to me!

You could also retain an XC V8 Gearbox, then the whole lot will bolt straight in, just get the EFI side of it goin, and away you'd go.

EDIT: Just so you know, V8's didnt come out until NC Series II (Mid 1991)

Yeah must've done. NA's definatley didnt come with V8, although with that being said, NC's were VERY, VERY similar to NA's particularlly the early NC's.

I have fitted a 5litre and 4 speed auto to my XF Panel Van. I straight gassed the engine and ran a Dizzy and 4 Barrel manifold. Rear cross member is where you run into trouble. At least the XB is a wide bolt in the XF's short one did not leave room for the Auto. We also have a T5 in an XD by grafting an XF T5 cross member into the XD's. Might work for the Auto. You also need an electronic Speedo sender for the Auto to work. A C10 will bolt straight onto the Windsor. Drive plate for the Borgy suits a C10 as well. If you do use a C10 do not use a Clevo Drive plate the balance is wrong. Regards T.P.V.M.
