Which way do the roller lifters go on the 5.0 windsors, the hole on the side facing outwards or inwards?

Some people say it doesn't matter, some people say inwards to help with limiting bleed down, and Max Ellery says outwards or you may hand grenade your motor.

I checked mine and they were installed randomnly from the factory, some inwards and others outwards.

Don't think it matters in all honesty.
But as Ross said. The wheely bit definitely goes to the bottom!
