Hi guys
About to purchase a donor for the xf ute. 5 litre conversion.
Does the 4 speed auto fit between the transmissions mounting plates on the body with a 5 litre?. (I recently had to trim some off to fit a 4 speed behind a six in an XF with a custom made cross member) same deal?,
Which engine mounts to use. I cant seem to find these answers by searching.
cheers

XD-E are Cleveland. Mounts might be different. Where is Nigel when you need his knowledge.

Windsor and Clevo mounts are exactly the same.
I believe a custom gearbox crossmember will need to be made. No biggie.
The Windsor will physically bolt in as per a clevo. But the power steering pump will hit the left shock tower. You will need to relieve the shock tower a bit.

Where the heater pipes come out the firewall, will be behind the cylinder head.
You will need the V8 engine mount adaptors that bolt onto the engine xmember.

Thats all I got.

Installing a Windsor the heater pipes will come out above/beside the head.
Its only when installing a Cleveland that they come out behind the head.

I have a complete thread on xfalcon.com (name : nigel - my 87 xf build).

I put an EB 4 Speed Auto/5.0 in an XF.

Front isnt too hard - use V8 engine mount plates etc.

Rears : Theyre too narrow, but youve figured that out. I removed the XF Trans mounts and welded the EB V8 ones in. Then used the EB Trans mount. The Trans does fit in - just not with (87) trans mounts on the body.

That may not hold true for Leaded XF's. They may be ok. I believe my 87 XF had later style mounts from just before the EA came out.

Don't know how similar the XG is to the different XF's? But I just slotted the mount for the trans mount in my 5.0 XG van. Obviously I used the XA-XE V8 mounts/plates as Nigel did.

This is how close the compressor gets to the base of the tower. If you trims off some of the unneeded bosses on the compressor and massage the tower slightly you'll be in business.

I made this ally crossmember for the coolant crossover tube...

I used nutserts to hold it on...

Plus it doubles as a trans line mount...

I found this shot of the top view of the LH mount. You can also see the pwr steer line and the plug I made for the stock reservoir and the remote reservoir on the shock tower. This allows room for the inlet tube as you'll see below..
