I have a 1993 v8 fairmont auto and it goes into limp home mode regularly. I have pulled the code with a scan tool and it comes up with 34 egr position sensor voltage above normal. I have swapped out the egr position sensor with 2 others off mates cars, swapped the ecv valve? (The one on the drivers shock tower) with another and still no good. Sometimes it will go into limp mode before I get out of street and other times I can drive for a couple of hours and it won't go into limp mode. I am starting to think it is a wiring fault. Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance

Egr may not be the problem, my old v8 ed probably had that fault code for years with no issues, wasn't hooked up. I'd be looking at the gearbox. The inhibitor switch is the only thing that ever put mine in limp mode.

New inhibitor switch, new idle control valve, new tps sensors have been fitted. Ecm, sensors, etc have been changed out with an eb xr8 and no fix. I have a 5 speed conversion that will go in if the gearbox is f**k.

Always wanted to convert my mont, eventually just bought the xr8 instead.

Are you getting a transmission limp mode, or engine limp mode? - looks like your covering both???
The trans ECU is seperate, and you need to read the codes from that. in most cases, I get Trans limp mode from connector issues at the round connector behind the engine that goes to the gearbox. Disconnect, good clean with contact clean/lube, reconnect and Im usually good. I also get limp home mode if I select 1st in a car where the shifter isnt adjusted properly - so the TR Sensor reads out of range, and the gearbox picks 3rd For the Engine - The EGR Sensor shouldnt cause limp home mode - it will just be bypassed. The problem is likely with the EGR Servo itself (needs a good clean?, or the diaphram has died), or with your EGR Solenoid which is on the Drivers side shock tower. Nigel |

Yeah I tried disconnecting egr, leaving egr hooked up but blanking off from intake, disconnecting vaccum leaving wires hooked up and vice versa, bypassing ecv valve and hooking vaccum straight up to intake etc etc. Auto is out and 5 speed is going in

EGR problems don't cause limp mode. Look elsewhere.
