Looks like I'm off the beaten path with this one, out in the woods with no compass, snacks or umbrella. I loved the 12 in that car, but keeping the kitty purring is just too much. Takes the fun out of it when you gotta have a tow truck follow you. Anyway, these Romeo motors are all over the place here in the good ol' USA & I just cant follow the Chev V8 crowd (although when I was young & impressionable I put one in my 56 Jag Mk 7 salon). Anybody heard of a swap like this? It will be my 5th US V8 into Jag swap so I'm not entirely ignant, but pretty close. Guess I'll need to start by measuring the distance between bottom of oil pan & top of everything. It would be disappointing to find I can't close the hood on my fine handywork. I'll keep ya'll posted while I plead for advice (before I moved to Texas, I thought a yawl was a little boat).

If you can't close the hood just punch a hole in it. Sounds like a great swap. You are lucky you guys have plenty of cheap 4.6 motors at your disposal.

350's drop in very easy as do the 351's. Only reason the 350 is a logical swap is the XJS runs a turbo 400 box and will bolt straight up to it.

These are a BIG motor, they are a 60 degree V12. motor box and front suspension assembly all drop out as one unit, but weighs almost a tonne!

Putting a Miami or Coyote into it would get a much better result, but as you say, its whats on the ground. I think the V12 is almost 1m (3 Foot) across at its widest point. as I said, big units.

My father inlaw has 2 of them, 1 race car 1 road car. He also has a Range Rover with a nasty 4.6l rover.

So he can get to work everyday, he drives a Mazda MX5.

Currently, range Rover has a blown head gasket, Road going jag has epic cancer that came out of nowhere. Race car, well, not for road use.

Have you considered a 2JZ with a 5 speed Supra gearbox?

Seems logical for this vehicle. Already has a big engine and he was thinking about a modular. So why not have one that has mega torque :)
