Hi folks. (EL i6 Fairmont) Pulled the dash out, replaced it and now I think I am missing a few ignition reds.
Could someone that has a Fairmont quickly run outside, turn the ignition on, and tell me what lights up?
I have:"lights on", econ, handbrake, airbag, ABS check, high beam, smartlock and cruise. the reds light up on the guages o.k., and low water shows up fine.
I think I am missing: seatbelt, battery (alt).
I think I must have missed a connection when putting the dash back in (bugger)

Alternator red shows up on the gauge.

Ah well, I will try to find the connector without taking the dash out again. Or maybe I will just leave it as is................

You must have the Battery/Alternator warning light connected, as the filament completes the exciter circuit for the alternator to charge your battery.

If you leave it disconnected, you'll end up with a flat battery.

That's odd, because I have been driving around now for 3 days, including a long trip yesterday, using headlights and driving lights, air con., radio etc., and the gauge on the dash is showing a charge all the time.
Car still starts fine,

That's a mystery.

No it doesn't... Excitation wire is separate... It's a 2 pin plug, one for excitor one for alt fail lamp... That pin actually generates voltage to turn the lamp off (other side of lamp is hot always)...

The seatbelt lamp has no plug... It is simply a timed indicator... When you turn the car on it comes on for a few seconds and then goes off... If the cluster turn on it should work (probably a blown globe)... The cluster only has two plugs at the back of it and you've got big master plugs at the ends of the dash loom... If something was unplugged you'd know about it...

Based on that I'd say the alt indicator (in the red box on the battery gauge) is blown or come loose in the back... Same with the seatbelt...

Thanks for that. I have to pull the cluster cover to replace the demist switch, I will have a look then.
The way I moved the dashboard about when I replaced it I would say it was a distinct possibility I loosened something.

If you gotta take the heater out, DON"T!! Buy another car!!!
