Hi, I need to recover my sagging headlining on my 2004 XR6. I have a factory workshop manual that tells me to remove the headlining all I have to do is simply remove the A,B and C pillar trim, sun visors, grab handles and interior lights.

That took about three minutes.

The problem came when i had to remove the roof dome light. The clear lens comes off easily but the base won't bloody come out. It sems to be held in place by four cylindrical metal clips with little springy tangs on the sides.

The question is, do I need a special tool?
Do I just keep pulling till it gives way?
Do I have to destroy the clips and replace them when I put the headlining back in?

Thanks to the guys at Moreland Auto Parts, 4 Hocking Street, Coburg North VIC 3058

They showed me how to remove the dome light without damaging the light base or the headlining.

1. squeeze the front and rear edges together on the clear lens and it pops off.
2. remove the globe.
3. put a couple of fingers through the hole in the centre of the base.
4. pull down firmly but evenly and the spring clips will contract and then release from the roof cross bar.
5. disconnect the electrical connections.
easy as when you know how

Thanks again.
