Ok decided to keep the shim and throw on my worked head. As before my pistons would hit the vavles and the shim should stop that. what ecu can i buy that is plug and play for the el xr6 as im on a tight budget this year and just want a running car for the moment.

have you dialed in your cam correctly? which valves hit - intake or exhaust.
also no direct plug in ecu's available for EL, you would need to wire ecu into the factory harness

How do you figure out how many degrees on the vernier gear to dial in a cam? Have bought the vernier cam cog and have no idea where to start.

You need the cam specs and a dial gauge and a degree wheel

what if you cant find the cam specs ?? and would it not being dialled in have caused the piston to hit the valve at high rpm?

As for the compression, spoke to my mate at ford and he reckons every el turbo he has seen without head work has blown the heads and gaskets. Maybe the people you know are nice to there vehicles, where as this is my daily fun thing I didn't put a turbo on it not to use its full power. I have a ranger for nice walks along the beach lol.

Not dialing the cam in will cause that exact problem, and i don't know who's building engines and tuning over there but if they keep blowing head gaskets its time to find another builder and tuner

None are plug and play. Just put a bleed off valve (one way Valve) on a T piece prior to the Map sensor. Will bleed off positive pressure (Boost) but will still operate on vac.

use a proper ecu....

if the ecu is not boost referenced (which it wont be if you use that one way valve mentioned) then there is absolutely no way it will fuel and adjust timing correctly for boost.

That's what the tune and chip is for the tuner adjusts fuel for different rpm and then it tells the ecu what to do doesn't it????
